Overview
Before joining Cornell, Flo has been working as a Research and Admin Assistant at the Institute of Ismaili Studies in London, including working on translating the French edition of Shahrastānī’s Kitāb al-Milal wa al-niḥal. She has also undertaken Research Assistantship positions at the University of Cambridge, exploring archival records on religious minorities in Iraq and Egypt, and at the Wilson Center and Georgetown University, analysing the social and historical roots of climate change vulnerability in the Middle East.
At Cornell, Flo is researching the depiction of symbolic motherhood in religious and literary texts from the Classical and Medieval Islamic periods, looking at how certain female figures in the Prophet Muhammad's life have been represented by later authors using distinctly maternal language.
