Professor Ross Brann is currently working on finishing his book, Andalusi Moorings: Al-Andalus & Sefarad as Tropes of Muslim and Jewish Culture. The book is a comparative study of the idea of "Andalusi exceptionalism" from 900-1200 based on analysis of a variety of literary and historical texts written in Arabic and Hebrew. This spring and summer he will finish up one of its chapters, an examination of Andalusi or Andalusi minded travelers to the Muslim East and how they reflected back on what they deemed the superiority of their homeland's cultural and religious traditions.
"Although my study is firmly grounded in the late classical age of Islam, the themes I explore in the book have contemporary resonance," says Brann of his work.
