Khatchadourian quoted in Le Monde

Lori Khatchadourian is quoted by Le Monde in an article about threats to cultural heritage in the aftermath of the Second Nagorno-Karabakh war, and the work of her research group, Caucasus Heritage Watch, to monitor endangered sites using high resolution satellite imagery.

Khatchadourian is part of a team of archaeologists from Cornell and Purdue universities who launched "Caucus Heritage Watch" in November 2020. The group studies satellite images of the region in order to identify damage caused to buildings.

“Satellite images are a powerful tool for documenting past and future destruction. They will allow us to monitor 300 to 400 monuments", says Lori Khatchadourian, the team leader, for whom respect for cultural heritage is "the key to building peace". Findings will be made public so that they can be used as evidence in the event of destruction.
