Overview
Mona Azzam is a dedicated educator and researcher specializing in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL). With advanced degree from The American University in Cairo, Mona has developed a keen interest in innovative pedagogical approaches, particularly the integration of digital tools to enhance language learning.
Mona served as an Arabic Lecturer in the Middle Eastern and Ancient Mediterranean Studies (MEAMS) department at SUNY Binghamton from August 2022 to July 2024. During her time there, she taught a variety of Arabic language courses to both undergraduate and graduate students. Previously, Mona was an Assistant Professor of Arabic (AFL) at The American University in Cairo (AUC) in the Arabic language intensive summer program (ALIS) of 2019.
Mona’s research explores the use of technology in language instruction, focusing on digital storytelling, comics, and corpus-based studies. She has presented work at prestigious conferences, such as the Arabic Linguistics Forum at the University of Leeds and the International Perspectives on Assessing World Languages (IPAWL) Conference. In addition, Mona has hosted webinars for organizations like the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and the North England Arabic Teachers Council (NEATC).
