Dan M. Kasell graduated from Cornell as a Near Eastern studies major in 2002. Afterward, Kasell received a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania and was an associate with the law firm of Sullivan & Cromwell for five years. In 2010, he joined Square Mile Capital Management, a real estate-focused private equity firm based in New York City, where he is now the Chief Legal Officer.
"I have great memories of my years at Cornell and, in particular, my experience as an NES major," says Kasell. "I greatly appreciated the mentorship of professors and advisors like Ross Brann, Kim Haines-Eitzen, Nava Scharf and Gary Rendsburg and the close-knit feel of the department. The courses I took, ranging from ancient Near Eastern history, literature and language; to medieval Jewish philosophy and the greater Mediterranean civilization; to Hebrew and modern Middle Eastern politics never failed to trigger (and satisfy) my intellectual curiosity, expand my worldview and hone my research, writing and critical reasoning skills – all of which I rely on daily in my career."
