Mostafa Minawi, assistant professor of history and part of the grad field faculty for the Department of Near Eastern Studies, has written a new book entitled, "The Ottoman Scramble for Africa: Empire and Diplomacy in the Sahara and the Hijaz." The book explores the Ottoman Empire's efforts at expansion during the end of the 19th century.
