Arabic offered through Cornell's Prison Education Program

Senior Lecturer, Makda Weatherspoon, will be teaching a course this summer through Cornell's Prison Education Program (CPEP) in the Auburn Correctional Facility. The course, Intensive Arabic: An Introductory Course, is designed to provide a thorough grounding in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Arabic. No previous knowledge of Arabic is required. Renelle Mensah, a Cornell undergraduate majoring in Government and minoring in Arabic, will join Makda Weatherspoon this summer as a Teaching Assistant.

The Cornell Prison Education Program is "dedicated to supporting incarcerated persons’ academic ambitions and preparation for successful re-entry. We believe that Cornell faculty and student engagement as instructors at correctional facilities manifests Ezra Cornell’s commitment to founding an institution where 'any person can find instruction in any study.'"
